Under Sections 47 to 52 of the Maharashtra Stamp Act, 1958, the Collector of Stamps can refund stamp duty on spoiled, unused or wrongly used stamps, including e-SBTR and GRAS e-challans. The general time limit is six months from the date of purchase of the stamp. For a registered agreement for sale that is cancelled by a registered cancellation deed within five years of the agreement, the refund application can be made within six months of registering the cancellation deed. A deduction prescribed by the State rules applies.
